Introduction
This statement is made by Global M'ckarm International Care Services Limited. The Modern Slavery Act 2015 only requires a statement from organisations with an annual turnover of 36 million pounds or more. We are below that level, but we publish this statement voluntarily because we believe it is the right thing to do.
Our business
We are a registered care provider delivering supported living and domiciliary care to adults in England. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission.
Our workforce is made up of care and support staff, coordinators and managers. Most of our spending is on staff. Our main suppliers provide personal protective equipment, office and digital services, training and professional advice.
Where the risks are
We recognise that the adult social care sector carries particular risks of modern slavery and labour exploitation. The main risks for us are:
- recruitment, including any international recruitment, where workers may be charged illegal fees or misled about their job
- the use of recruitment agencies or third parties to supply workers
- supply chains for products such as gloves and other protective equipment
Our policies
Our commitment is supported by the following policies:
- Safer recruitment, including right to work checks for every member of staff
- Whistleblowing, so staff can raise concerns safely
- Safeguarding adults, which includes recognising and reporting modern slavery
- Equality, diversity and inclusion
- Ethical procurement
Due diligence
To reduce the risk of modern slavery, we:
- check every worker's identity and right to work in the UK before they start
- never charge workers fees for recruitment, and never hold their passports or identity documents
- pay at least the National Living Wage and give every worker a written contract they understand
- check that any recruitment agency we use follows UK law and does not charge workers fees
- buy from established UK suppliers wherever possible
Training and awareness
Modern slavery is covered in our safeguarding training. Staff learn how to spot the signs, both in their colleagues and in the people we support, and how to report concerns.
Anyone can report a concern to the Modern Slavery and Exploitation Helpline on 08000 121 700, or to the police on 999 in an emergency.
Measuring our progress
Each year we review:
- whether right to work checks are complete for all staff
- any concerns raised through whistleblowing or safeguarding, and the action taken
- whether staff have completed safeguarding training
